Galaxy s4 connection issue
Not long after I got my desktop and got several tools installed and upgrades to win 8.1, my galaxy s4 cannot connect to Kies anymore.
I got a yellow triangle in the device manager, the samsung portable mtp device shows a error code 19.
I tried almost all possible ways I can find to deal with this issue. Remove drivers/update drivers/disable drivers/remove LowerFilder or UpperFilter keys in Register ...etc but nothing helps.
Finally it turn out to be the driver is conflict (or register) with another software which also relate to USB port, in my case it is Asus AI Charger plus. It is a driver combined with Asus AI Suit as a bundle of overclock tool kit.
Uninstall the AI Charger and restart computer then everything fixed.
I decide to share the way with people who also have similar issue. Since the error code and the device manager entry went away after the fix, I cannot provide the details and screenshots of this fix.
Here is the steps as far as I can remember:
1. Open device manager and find the 'Samsung blah blah...' with a yellow warning sign.
2. Double click to open the window and then go to [Details] tag. You can see a drop down with default option 'Device description'
3. Now we try to find the GUID from one item of the drop down menu, which hopefully you can find a match in registry.
*I can barely remember I found my key under 'Device key'(or driver key ), I can't find the item again after problem solved. Whatever, in some of the options you can find a wired long string (combined by character, number and dashes) in its value field, which also can be find in your registry. In my case it is {eec5ad98-8080-425f-922a-dabf3de3f69a}, which represent the registry item of Samsung MTP, and also Asus AI Charger Plus.
4. At the same time, type regedit in command prompt and open the registry. You don't have to backup because we don't need to change anything
Go to register, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class -> any key you found in last step
5. If you see a name of another software (if it is in your system)appeared in Lower/Upper filter field of this item, and also see the 'Samsung blahblah' in a subcategory of this item , this should be the driver conflict with your Galaxy s4.
* There are more than one key you can find in Device manager which also appears in registry.
6. remove the software and restart system.
According to my case, you should look at any newly installed driver/tool which relate to USB first.
